Beadwork: Journey Through Education

Artist statement
The artwork that I have submitted is some of my flower beadwork. They are matching beaded flower earrings that are backed with deer hide. As a Metis individual, I often bead and use the time to slow down, reflect and strengthen my roots to my heritage. Metis beadwork frequently uses flower patterns in their work and are known as the flower beadwork people. A common characteristic of flower beadwork is to show the flowers in many different stages of growth. The beadwork that is pictured in my submission is fully grown; it reflects the end of a journey to becoming an educator. Over the past two years, I have learned a lot about who I am as an educator, and how I can be better for students. Although the flower is bloomed and the end of the B.Ed program is near, there will still be more after. The flower will continue to have a purpose after blooming, and I will continue learning into my career. Therefore, this beadwork reflects my journey as a lifelong learner.
