Knowledge of Subjects and How to Teach Them

These artifacts demonstrate the appropriate pedagogical knowledge and skills that I have acquired in English and Social Studies to help students learn. I can draw on my knowledge from my subject areas and my understanding of differentiated instruction to meet the learning needs of all my students.

Social Studies Inquiry Plan: Geography 10

I included this artifact to demonstrate my pedagogical and subject-area knowledge. This inquiry plan was made in consideration of the unique Nova Scotia landscape as well as experiential learning to meet the needs of all students.

Implementation of Content Literary Strategies for ELA: Hero Unit

This lesson plan has been adapted with the consideration of content literacy strategies to enhance learning through scaffolding. I included this to demonstrate my mastery of outcome 2.7, which is my ability to implement content literacy across subjects and grades. I have implemented three strategies within this lesson plan and described why and how it is an effective strategy. As such, this lesson plan demonstrates my endured understanding.

ELA: Short Story Weekly Lesson Plan

I included this lesson plan, created by Claire McCormick and me, as part of my artifacts to show my learning and understanding of how to use the appropriate pedagogical knowledge and subject knowledge to ensure the lesson was flexible and met different student needs and learning styles, as referenced by outcome 5.1 and 5.3. I hope to improve on this lesson plan with the new curriculum and instructional knowledge I obtain from further instructional courses

ELA: Mini-Unit on Webbing with Indian Horse and The Marrow Thieves

I included this pre-writing lesson plan, created by Claire Stefansson and I, to demonstrate how I have met outcome 5.2 - knowledge of current teaching methodologies and strategies. I want to offer webbing and graphic organizers as a strategy for my students who prefer to express their learning and thinking in a different way. I also hope to encourage students to be creative with their organizers as they are meant to be flexible

ECM: Introduction to Heroes
Scaffolding

This lesson plan demonstrates my knowledge of appropriate scaffolding combined with activating prior knowledge. The students moved through different videos to unpack what it really means to be a hero. In the end, the students used their prior knowledge, combined with the new knowledge they obtained, to answer a deeply personal question. By scaffolding, I was able to achieve thinking that went beyond surface knowledge.

ELA: Unit Plan on a Novel Study Centered
Around the Identity of Adolescents

I included this artifact to demonstrate my knowledge and understanding of how to adapt content and strategies (specific to ELA) to meet the different needs of learners. It also shows my ability to intersect technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge, as referenced by outcome 5.4. I hope to continue to stay relevant with current research and theories to learn new strategies and methodologies that will be effective in an ELA classroom

Social Studies 8: Inquiry Based Learning

This structured inquiry (level 2) approach lesson plan carries students through independent research to gather evidence in order to answer the guiding question of the lesson. We adpated this lesson plan to fit student interest. Specifically, students are able to engage with the interactive website using a place they consider home or a place of interest.

Healthy Living: Setting Boundaries

I created this lesson plan for my grade 7 Health Living students to get them actively engaged in understanding boundaries. This artifact demonstrates my knowledge of Healthy Living and my ability to make the content more relevant to my students. I hope to use this to express my understanding of outcome 5.3 to adapt content to make it more engaging for my students.
