Attention to the Uniqueness of the Nova Scotian Context

These artifacts demonstrate my understanding of the Nova Scotian context. Specifically, I understand the importance of specific perspectives, cultures, and ways of knowing Mi'kmaw learners, African Nova Scotians, Acadian learners, children living in poverty, 2SLGBTQIA+ learners, newcomers, rural students, and ELL students.  Through this understanding, I have learned how to respond to the historic, religious, and systemic factors that shape learners' identities.

Learner to Pre-Service Teacher Podcast

Kellen Anderson and I created this podcast which analyzed our knowledge of social justice and diversity education and the skills we acquired as learners to recognize and remove barriers to academic and social success, as referenced by outcome 1.1. Specifically, we looked at who we are as ongoing learners, the sociological context of learning, and the kind of educators we hope to be as a result of these experiences.

English Language Learner Equity

I included this infographic because it demonstrates my understanding of outcome 1.2, which is my awareness of the marginalization experienced by specific learners, such as those who experience English as a second language. By pulling in my own experiences as an immigrant, as well as relevant research, this infographic includes important resources that can be implemented. I hope to use these practices to create an inclusive classroom space

Learning Differences: Dysgraphia Podcast

I included this podcast, by Kellen Anderson and I, to demonstrate my understanding of the characteristics of dysgraphia and my knowledge of how to recognize and remove barriers to the academic and social success of students with dysgraphia, as referenced by outcome 1.1. We looked at our roles as educators in supporting these students to achieve the same success as their peers.

Being Black in the Classroom: A Former Student's Prespective

This artifact demonstrates my understanding of the importance of unique perspectives, which allows me to teach with careful consideration and empathy.
